Description

Imagine plant-based food enthusiasts, healthy lifestyle advocates, and members of the public gathering in one place to enjoy a unique culinary experience.

That was exactly what happened at Jakarta Vegetarian Week 2026, an annual event featuring a wide variety of plant-based foods, eco-friendly products, and engaging activities such as talk shows, games, live cooking demonstrations, and health screenings.

For six days, from May 12–17, 2026, Emporium Pluit Mall in North Jakarta became a vibrant hub for food lovers and sustainability enthusiasts alike. More than just a culinary destination, the event provided opportunities for learning and inspiration around healthier, more balanced, and sustainable lifestyles.

As part of this initiative, Meatless Monday Indonesia (MMI) joined the event as a collaborator, supporting efforts to encourage people to explore plant-based eating in a practical and accessible way.

MMI’s participation aimed to broaden public understanding that healthier and more environmentally friendly eating habits do not have to be extreme or difficult. Through small steps—such as trying plant-based meals occasionally—positive change can begin gradually.

Overview

Jakarta Vegetarian Week 2026 provided an ideal platform for MMI to introduce the Meatless Monday concept through an approach that was relatable and relevant to everyday life.

Through its participation, MMI encouraged visitors to see that reducing meat consumption—even starting with just one day per week—can be a simple step toward healthier and more sustainable eating habits.

The festival also served as an opportunity to demonstrate that plant-based food is not limited to a specific lifestyle group but can be enjoyed by anyone as part of their everyday culinary exploration.

Objective

MMI’s participation in Jakarta Vegetarian Week 2026 aimed to provide visitors with a practical and engaging learning experience. Through the event, attendees were introduced to the Meatless Monday movement through a talk show and had the opportunity to see firsthand that many vegetarian dishes are not only nutritious but also delicious and easy to incorporate into daily life.

In addition, MMI showcased innovative menu ideas, products, and brands through interactive cooking demonstrations. These activities offered a fun and engaging way to demonstrate that plant-based eating can be creative, diverse, and highly relevant to modern lifestyles.

At the same time, MMI sought to strengthen engagement and increase awareness among healthy lifestyle communities, vegetarians, and members of the public who are becoming increasingly interested in sustainable eating practices.

Process

The festival took place over six days, from May 12–17, 2026, at Emporium Pluit Mall. As part of the Jakarta Vegetarian Week 2026 program, MMI was featured on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM WIB.

During the session, MMI was represented by Fiameta Rizki, who introduced the Meatless Monday movement and its mission. The presentation was followed by a live cooking demonstration of Gluten-Free Vegan Moringa Cookies led by Chef Renata Basuki.

Held in the Main Atrium of Emporium Pluit Mall, the session offered visitors a firsthand look at how to prepare a simple plant-based snack. Attendees were particularly impressed by the cookies’ delicious flavor and balanced sweetness.

The session attracted approximately 50–70 participants from diverse backgrounds, including healthy lifestyle communities, vegetarians, and members of the general public interested in exploring plant-based eating. Visitors not only observed the cooking process but also gained inspiration and practical insights into how plant-based meals can be simple, flavorful, and relevant to everyday life.

Outcome

MMI’s collaboration at Jakarta Vegetarian Week 2026 successfully encouraged active participation from attendees. Through practical recipes featuring locally sourced ingredients, visitors gained a better understanding of how plant-based eating can be incorporated into daily life at home.

As a result, many participants were inspired to explore the Meatless Monday movement as a simple step toward healthier and more environmentally friendly eating habits.

The event also helped challenge the perception that plant-based food is complicated or expensive. Instead, it demonstrated that many plant-based dishes are easy to prepare, delicious, and affordable using ingredients that are readily available in local communities.

Beyond providing culinary inspiration, the session created opportunities for meaningful interaction between visitors and the MMI community, fostering new connections for individuals interested in adopting a more sustainable approach to eating.
